Sometimes I See You
Sometimes I see you in the eyes of another
Or the heart of one of my sisters or brothers.
In love songs and poetry, or the light of the sun.
In the dawn of the new day when the darkness is done.
I can’t comprehend why you’ve not come to me.
To give me sight that I might believe.
Sometimes I envy the faith of a friend.
So I may feel comfort and not just pretend.
I thought I had faith but it’s tough to relate
When prayer goes unanswered, it’s hard to just wait.
I’ve waited and waited, as patient as Job,
Always believed I would obtain that white robe.
Are you there God, my father, my love?
Or just a figment that I’m dreaming of?
Sometimes I see you, yet I’m not so sure.
In the heart of a rose, in all your grandeur.
In the light of the moon and the twinkle of stars.
In the black of the night and far off quasars.
When I witness the beauty of what does exist,
You are tough to deny and hard to dismiss.
