Love Is Where My Heart Is
The rising sun stings my eyes as I run outside to play.
Ma hangs clothes on the line so that they can dry all day.
Fresh as rain and white as snow,
a hint of bleach that stings my nose.
Hide and seek I play in sheets
While the fledglings sing their tweets.
The morning dew spritz my toes as I run and laugh and shout.
There stands ma tall and proud with a smile upon her mouth.
Her eyes are soft, her hair a mess, this morning’s breakfast on her dress.
The smell of lavender fills the air and paints the field with artist’s flair.
Who would have guessed that heaven was here?
Behind our house on this frontier?
With the shining sun and drying sheets
with the singing birds where mama breathes.
Love lives in my yard, here at my house,
behind my bone, muscle, skin, my blouse.
