An old poem I wrote on Saturday, December 30. 2006 entitled -
HICKEYS AND TATTOOS
With three mouths together
In a single kiss
Where we all enter each others’ hearts
Through a single broken doorway
Me Feel free to bruise my neck repeatedly
With your teeth and tongue
Sucking the blood to the surface of my skin
To let strangers know that I am “taken”
Or ink my name permanently into your flesh
So when you are naked
Men and women know that you are already “taken”
It is this act of possession and ownership
That makes us kill one another
Eat pieces of one another’s soul
That we vomit up
After too much alcohol
Or swim in a gluttony of lust
In a liquid of us which drowns
And we try to save ourselves
By drinking wildly, gulping it down,
Lapping at it with our tongues
Us humans are not made for such
So in its place of passion and impulse
It gives way to hatred and jealousy
And so Heaven on Earth decays as soon as it exists
As babies are born to die
So all that is left is amassed memories
That during quiet times you can relish
Or live in torment because of the absence
Try to re-live again
Learn from
So next time you will not raze what had been so beautiful
Or protect the only things you are left with –
Hickeys and tattoos
