SNOW (A Christmas Gift)
19 December 2018
Melts when it lays down on the bumps of my tongue
Burns away into the soil when the earth radiates
Collects in inches on the ground if the ground is frozen
Days later the sun tries to kill it
It clings together in circles on dead brown grass lawns
The white always gives way to dark patches of black, gray, soot
It liquefies, makes puddles, and then in the winter of the night, freezes again
Births black ice for those who take it for granted
Mountains expose the things that litter their crust
The secrets that were always there but were ignored
In between bare tree trunks and snow covered ground
Heavy wet clouds of snow
Soaked fingers when you touch it
Black gloves dank on the tips
A perversion holding all things together
Snow is just specks of dirt brought together to fall from 30,000 feet
Shutting down schools
Blocking roads
Amplifying the smell of damp wood smoking in fireplaces
Where bodies fall into and make angels
Roll balls and stack together to make facsimile people with corncob noses
And it makes me want to drink you
