As I Turn My Head Back to the Room... Detroit, MI
MCS, Michigan Central Station, was one of the more interesting abandoned buildings I photographed in Detroit. I think I got to shoot it shortly before they locked it down with motion detectors and security and started work there. I hear it's much harder to get into today.
At one time MCS was the main inner-city railroad depot for Detroit. On top of a glorious Beaux-Arts station was an 18-story office complex. When it was finished in 1914 it was the tallest rail station in the world.
The building in now owned by billionaire Matty Moroun, a somewhat controversial figure in Detroit http://goo.gl/ht6ljk who owns the Ambassador Bridge a profitable toll bridge which carries most of the traffic between Detroit and Canada. Moroun also owns the Detroit Book Depository which sits next to MCS. Reportedly there is restoration work being done on the building with various plans for future development.
My 200th post to Ello. :)
