So, I got an A on my research paper for one class; three or four students have informed me so far that that professor doesn't give As on research papers. And then I got a 100/100 for my political analysis of the Falklandw War for my International Relations class, plus I'm pretty sure I crushed the final for that course as well. So it looks like two As in the bag. I'm pretty confident about getting an A in Politics of Identity, and, barring a complete and utter cock-up in Japanese, I should do okay in that as well.
It looks like I might finally have a little work coming my way; a private lesson in Yokohama on Friday evenings and one at a school, also in Yokohama, on Saturday mornings. Plus I've got a trial lesson coming up on Monday night near Tamachi station near the university. If I could get all three of these going, that would work out to 50,000 yen a month for four hours a week of work, which is basically my rent. The guy who set me up with the two Yokohama jobs says he is looking for other work in the area for me as well. If I got up to ten or so hours a week of work at these rates, I'd be making 125,000 yen a month, which would really be more than enough for me to get by on and cover my bills, food, and so forth. If I was maxing out my visa limit at 28 hours a week, I'd be making 350,000 yen a month, but I need to leave time for schoolwork. That would be a nice problem to have, however.
Today, for lack of anything better to do, I rode my bike over to the Kawasaki station area, parked it, and went for a look around. Surprise: it turns out that you can't see all of the shopping in the Kawasaki station area in one day. It's like Disneyland or something. Mostly I just wandered around, and when I saw something cool, I tagged it on my phone so that I can go back there when I have money. Among the winners included TWO music stores (including one the size of a Guitar Center that just sells Fender and Gibson products), a Tower Records (although I don't buy physical media any more), an L&L Hawaiian restaurant just like the one in Federal Way, a bagel shop, two buffet restaurants that are gonna show a loss one day real soon, one of the biggest Namco game centers I've ever seen, and a lot more. I got worn out just looking at stuff, and the only thing I bought down there was a 100-yen hamburger from McDonald's. I also found a couple of cool-looking bars that will have to be explored ar some point.
I rode back home, put some rice in the cooker for Thai curry, and made a couple of tiny baked potatoes for lunch, then kicked back to watch some Hulu (Agents of SHIELD: Damn.) Rested and played guitar, and now I'm gonne reheat some of that curry for my dinner.
tl;dr: I had a pretty good day.
