Desde mi boca llegará hasta el cielo
lo que estaba dormido sobre tu alma.
What was sleeping above your soul will rise
out of my mouth to heaven.
-W.S. Merwin, translator
If one is to take the line “Desde mi boca”, “from my mouth”, (line three) the suggestion is that language itself, poetry is what was asleep on her soul, and that this language, human language aspiring to the divine, will arrive “llegará hasta el cielo” (line three). So that the heavens shall hear him? Because she is not listening? Is that language, poetry, a form of love?
