Three videos came my way today.
JJ have been a long time favourite of mine but it's taken a while for their current batch on the new album V to click with me. A song will start to sound halfway towards becoming something great before it changes to sound halfway towards becoming some other great song. The melodies and lyrics are like Elin Kastlander made them up on the spot absent mindedly perhaps thinking of something else while say cooking, or in the shower or doing the gardening or housework. But usually if there's any sense in a piece of music that i'm not getting, a good video will fix my confusion. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bnk6Pd5h0RQ
Dawn Golden - Still Life. There was an instrumental version of this tune a few years back that i liked a lot so this song has been in gestation for some time. It's sounds like the kind of tune JJ would come up with if they tried (trying isn't always a good thing though), a mix of feelings of heartbreak tenderness regret and a sentimentality pushing at the boundaries of sappy. This sounds like North London grime from 10 or so years ago but still sounds like it's pushing forward, still some relevance left in that genre perhaps. Skepta & Wiki - That's Not Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIp3UTf-5wE
