Everything was sharp about Christian. His eyes were made to cut looks to rip through confidences. His words made to cut hearts. His very body structure; hard and crisp jawline to match square edgy shoulders. Even the building he worked in looked like it'd slice you in half if you leaned on it the wrong way.
Peggy was like frozen rubber. Damn near impossible to cut but easy to shatter. Christian's words from earlier that day,
"We don't run in different circles Peggy, we live in different worlds. The air I breathe is poisonous to your lungs. I grew up breathing the air of privilege and I like it this way. You grew up dreaming of a life like mine. The dream is over. Time to wake up."
Her heart had indeed bled from those words. But luckily Peggy made decisions with her brain not her heart. So although her heart was bleeding all over the floor as she walked up the stairs to the interviewees waiting room, her brain couldn't help but send signals to her mouth to perk up and smile at Christians expression. The sharp edges had finally fallen slack.
