I read and liked both of these so I posted Both, V important :]
I'd like to see this site grow. I also haven't been doin' too much on here because I'm still waiting for some more solid privacy policies to kick in.
I hope all this feedback goes to good use @budnitz, @cacheflowe, @todd, @lucian, @gv, @jayzes, @mk
"so please believe us. trust between a social network and its most vulnerable users is one of the most important and overlooked 'features' everyone secretly wants. ello has a chance to implement it.
the collage of white guy icons is more important than you think. they are visible without standing out. they can speak without consequences. they are not the people who really know how a social network should work, because they will barely ever (and if they do, to great media fanfare) experience the negative consequences of it not working.
listen to women. listen to trans people. listen to queer people. listen to people of colour. god damn it, listen to sex workers for once. doing this will not harm the experience for anyone else, but ensure that groups that is much larger than you think have a place on ello. and if they have a place, more of them should show up. that's what you want, right?
what do you have to lose, except a bunch of things that don't affect you and harm so many others?"
"Since joining @ello, I've been thinking about how the power of communication seems to be distributed unevenly, and I can't see anyone that seems to be addressing it (probably due to the aforementioned asymmetry in visibility). To put it simply: if you check out the "Discover" tab to find some interesting people to follow, the vast majority of them are white dudes. With beards, and glasses. They're probably designers, photographers, and went to college. I know there are many more kinds of people on Ello, but where are they? Why aren't they represented in the area of the site that is the only ways to find new people to follow? It raises some questions to me about who this site is for, and who is comfortable here. I know the team at ello is working hard to make this platform a safe and enjoyable place to be, so I just want to share my thoughts, in the hopes that they don't sound accusatory but rather some constructive input to consider".
