These phrases dictate a lot of inner turmoil. When you are afraid of being in a place, or you just cannot stand being there, but you have to be, do you ever think "PLEASE GET ME OUT OF HERE!"? I know I do.
I know when people say things that I don't care to hear, but I have to hold my tongue to 'be polite', or they are wrong and I have to appear complacent and docile (I am anything but), I think about saying "PLEASE SHUT UP" or something similar.
I think a lot of people can relate. We want to be polite in society, and especially women are trained to be polite in that way. To bite their tongue when they know they are right. Youth culture also is devalued. Somehow my expertise never accounts for anything, it never matters, and so I need to hold my tongue, stay in the place I should run from, and bow down.
I don't want to bow down. I think a lot of people can understand that.
I like to think it's a spiritual successor to the piece most people know me by, featured below. I feel like I'll never be able to beat that piece, but hey, this one came out of me recently...does it mean a new chapter in my art life? :) Maybe every time I make work like this it means I'm going towards something new.
I hope it means that. Because sticking where I am ain't gonna get me nowheres ~
