Macau is a destination that does not have direct flights. You have to take a ferry from the Hong Kong airport to visit Macau. I was traveling with United Airlines flights and I had already informed at the check-in counter that I was traveling to Macau so my luggage could directly get transferred to the ferry. If you are traveling with any other low-cost airline you will have to show your luggage pass at the ferry counters to get your luggage transferred.
I am an impatient traveler and I had to get the updates for my flights to know everything was going well. I was able to check my United Airlines flight status through the online website with a few clicks very conveniently.
There are two ferry services that take you to Macau Turbo Check and Kotai currently. You can take tickets for economy or Superclass varying in price and services.
