Wimbledon 2015 - My Highlights: Day One
🇺🇸Serena opened her Wimbledon campaign on Court One on Monday afternoon. It was a classic slow, even slagish I'd say, start with a well executed ending - a classic Serena style as of late. She was broken in her opening game, at one point in the set 1:3 down, came back to win 6:4 in that set and then cruised in the second 6:1. First rounds do test one's mental abilities and nerves often play their part even when you're the world no. 1.
My favourite men's singles of the day has got to be 🇨🇭Wawrinka vs. 🇵🇹Sousa. I was very excited to see Stan return to a big stage. He didn't have a good start to the grass season with his loss at Queen's. But here in London expectations are high even though he's not thought of as a favourite.
🇬🇧Liam Broady is the hero of the day and surely the comeback king, at least on day 1 of the championships. From to sets down he comeback to win the match in 5. Great effort. Nothing boring about this first round match.
🇺🇸Venus looked amazing on grass yesterday. No wonder it's her favourite surface. She brings her best tennis to London. Last year she lost to Kvitova but played a fantastic match. In her match against Brengle she was moving well, her forehand, her backhand, her serve, everything was working. And with a double bagel - what a win! Hope she continues to play like that!
🇺🇸Sloane Stephens played her opener against Strycova on Centre Court and won 6:4 6:2. I like her playing style and her movement on court. She seemed confident yet relaxed. Will be interesting to see how she does in the second round.
Heartbreak of the day? 🇦🇺Lleyton Hewitt saying goodbye to Wimbledon for the last time in his professional career. He'll be missed.
