Do you have guilt issues over throwing out plastic waste?
I sure do, I try to keep the amount I buy down, there are some products that can't easily be avoided. I guess "easily" is the key word here, I could avoid it, maybe with more time, eliminate it. So a half-assed job on my behalf really.
I was just reading an article on the absurdly huge floating ocean garbage patches, yes patches, there's more than one, it's insane, a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y insane. We currently dump approximately 8,000,000 tons of plastic per year into the oceans. Do you know what slowly happens to that plastic? It breaks down, and is then ingested by the smallest organisms on the sea floor. It then heads up the food chain.
Luzinterruptus, an anonymous art group based in Madrid, have a history of raising public awareness of plastic waste, and excessive consumerism. They created an interesting floating art installation, titled the "eighth continent" out of 5,000 recycled bottles.
Feel free to voice your opinion on this issue, it's not just oceans, we are drowning in garbage.
