Hmmm... Kinda seems like Anchor couldn't decide if they were brewing a Winter Warmer or a Black IPA. It's a melange of roasted malts, pine, chocolate, and a strange, sticky anise/cola taste. None of the flavors dominate the others, but they also don't manage to compliment or contrast one another. It's all just kind of jumbled up together. It could just be an issue of the 2017 not agreeing with my palate; it's not awful, just not my cup of
tea beer. I say snag a sixer and see if you like it, if not you can always cellar it for a year or two and see if it improves.
