Beer Diary: Festina Pêche (Dogfish Head Craft Brewery)
One of my recent pet peeves has been breweries that make up beer styles; Festina Pêche isn't a Berliner Weissbier, it's a "neo-Berliner Weissbier." Whatever. This starts off with a crisp, green apple tartness that's pleasantly mild and doesn't overwhelm the palate. This quickly gives way to peaches and wheat. Simple, yet elegantly crafted and well balanced. With all the peaches I was expecting a sticky, syrupy sweetness, but this is surprisingly dry, almost like a wine. My only complaint is that this a seasonal brew and the last bottles have been snatched off the shelves.
