The temperature finally dropped below 70° here, so I figured it was time to review all the winter seasonals I bought back in December and a gingerbread stout seemed like the ideal place to start. Unfortunately, Back Home leaves a bit to be desired. It starts out with robust gingerbread (duh) and holiday spice notes that mingle with some chocolate undertones, which gives way to bitter dark malts, and concludes with a strange, almost medicinal, vanilla flavor. The mouthfeel was also a little off; right around the bitter malts you got a zing from the higher abv and the finish was weirdly dry. Meh. I would drink this again, but I certainly wouldn't buy it again.
