Beer Diary: Sakitumi (Lagunitas Brewing Company)
Brewed with rice and sake yeast, you’d probably think this was a Japanese Rice Lager, but it’s actually a Double IPA. Not being a fan of IPAs, I was worried about this one; especially after opening the bottle and having my nose hit by a wave of hops & citrus. So, you can imagine how surprised I was when I took a sip and discovered this to be nuanced and well balanced. Up front the lemon and grapefruit hops meld nicely with the rice sweetness and the sake yeast provides a nice, dry finish that mingles with tangerine hops and alcohol warmth. Lagunitas has outdone themselves with this, creating one of the most original and unusual Double IPAs that’s I’ve ever had.
