Beer Diary: Don Jalapeño Ale (No Label Brewing Company)
Most chili beers suffer from two problems: 1) They're brewed for heat, instead of a flavor 2) That heat coats the palate and lingers until it becomes unpleasant. Thankfully, neither of those are an issue for Don Jalapeño; it starts off with roasted pale malts, which are quickly overcome by jalapeños, and finishes with a mix of spicyness and piney hops. There's a little bit of residual heat that briefly lingers in the esophagus, but not enough for it to be an issue. A glimmer of hope in the Summer of Shitty Beers! Unfortunately, I recently discovered that No Label decided to discontinue the brew and all that remains is what's left on store shelves.
