It's fourth quarter now and at least a third of the student body has stopped caring,
eyes set on the oncoming summer, ignoring everything in the classrooms but the sun shining in from the windows, the only indication that anything has changed since November.
Lockers abandoned in favor of safer and more efficient storage methods
Classes skipped and sick days taken to keep us sane
Homework copied because what teacher really checks these things anymore
Thoughts of college and summer jobs lurking in the background
Exams and report cards hovering over us, promising to shake us out of our complacency when we inevitably fail to meet expectations
But who honestly cares?
Who is doing any of this for themselves?
Who wouldn't leave this godforsaken Catholic school and go hide in the mountains if nobody was watching?
Our vacant stares and low participation scores give us away- the teachers know they've lost us
They try desperately to get us back with movies and group projects at first, threats and Fs at last
But our parents are the only people paying attention
The seniors are ghosts
The juniors are anarchists
The sophomores are veterans
The freshman have expired
And no one is ready for spirit week
