Monarch Butterflies are known for their incredible mass migration that bring millions of them to California and Mexico each winter. Many scientists are concerned about the eastern population of monarchs, which are occurring in ever smaller numbers. Threatened by a series of natural disasters in their Mexican wintering grounds as well as reduced acreage of milk weed plants in their summer home.
There are many native milkweed species in each of the six 'Milkweed Regions'. It is important to plant seeds from species native to your area. Planting non-native milkweed can do great harm to the ecosystem and can kill Monarchs rather than save them.
