4 Steps to a Powerful Cleansing System
If your options are using face wipes, body soap or just hit the sacks at night, I’d suggest you put in a bit more time into your skin routine. As any professional esthetician would tell you, cleansing your skin properly is the most important step in all skincare routine. When it comes to cleansing your face, it’s not so much about how you do it, but rather that you do it consistently—and do it smartly. Without proper cleanse and exfoliation, skin can get irritated easily, causes buildups, acne or dryness, which can easily lead to breakouts, in-grown hair, premature aging, and hyperpigmentation. Besides, without a residue-free starting point, your skin can’t perform to their fullest potentials.
Step 1 (optional if you don’t have makeup): Remove Face Makeup
Apply a gentle creamy/ oil makeup remover to loosen up any foundation, beard oil, dead skin cells and oil build up throughout the day. This process will also help loosen up and open up your pores for an even deeper cleanse. And facial wipes are only allowed at last resort since most makeup removal face wipes in the market are not ideal for daily cleansing.
Step 2: Exfoliate (twice a week)
Use an exfoliator twice a week before your facial cleanses, this will allow your skin to strip off all dead cells so you can properly cleanse healthy tissue underneath. This process will help promote faster cells turnover, which is the key to fight against aging. A physical scrubs should do wonder; if you’re struggling with large pores, acne, and blackheads, I would suggest an acid peel as a form of exfoliation.
Step 3: Cleanse
Wash your face with a facial cleanser that fits your skin type, this will help further remove any residue, leaving pores clean and tight. No matter which is your skin type, always choose face wash that’s alcohol, soap/detergent-free. Oil, cream formula cleanser are great for sensitive, dry skin, while active gel, a charcoal cleanser is great for oily, acne-prone skin. Proper cleanse should leave skin bright, tight and hydrated.
Step 4: Tone
Finally, after stripping all dead cells, build-ups, the most important step in order for all your skincare products to perform at their fullest potentials is toning. Gently apply toner either directly to skin or on a pad, this will help restore your skin pH balance and hydration level back to normal, in order for your cell receptors to adapt more nutrition from your skincare regimen. Just like cleanser, and toner with alcohol-based at all cost.
After this fifth and final step, you’re onto your serums, moisturizers, and whatever skin treatments you please.
