ARTIST STATEMENT
"My art, video and design work is all influenced by the "patriarchal lens" through which we view art. Until recently, women had been used in art and media as objects - a gift for the viewer, deemed male. My work aims to confront the viewer by reclaiming art for art's sake as opposed to art for man's sake; art can be pleasing to look at without the subtext of a woman begging "please look at me." The art I create reclaims my female body as a human being - not as an object; I am naked, not nude. My art also shows the depth of a woman while also commenting on the lens in which we are still often trapped and from which we are trying to break free, such as with these pieces depicting a woman trapped inside another, inside the rectangular bounds of the image. This is also depicted in the images that look like reflections, expressing the endless cycle from which we try to break free."
