I’m a photographer from Philadelphia, PA currently living and teaching English in Mérida, Yucatán, México. In the past few years, since my father gifted me his 1966 Minolta SR-T 101, I’ve become increasingly drawn to film photography; the intention, patience, excitement, and skill involved in creating and capturing images on film is, in my opinion, unrivaled by digital and iPhone photography. There is something so real and tactile about every step of the process.
When I’m not teaching, you can find me wandering the dusty, historic streets of Mérida with my film camera, capturing scenes from my daily life as a foreigner here.
I teach English to support my photography habit, which is something I’d like to change. I believe that the recognition and money (film processing isn’t cheap!) from the Ello Creative Excellence Award would finally allow me to let myself pursue photography more seriously and begin to realize my validity and artistic potential as a photographer. Until then, #keepfilmalive!
