The last 3 years I have participated in a challenge for one of my local modern quilt guilds, Westside Modern. My previous posts were of my two entries for last years challenge. The Pearl, or rather a quilt inspired by the Pearl district in Portland Oregon. This year we are to chose a pacific NW Indian tribe and make a modern quilt inspired by that tribe.
I spent my 18th summer in the small town of Willow Creek next to the Hoopa Indian reservation. They had built replicas of these amazing family homes with small round doors humans could fit through but not a bear. Here is my first attempt at building my own family home. (It needs shortened a bit and a round door added)
And here is my attempt at dug out canoes, lol. The real challenge was the challenge fabric. It is the background "golden" color in the canoe above the photo. This is certainly a departure from my regular brights and clean low volume choices. Once I got going I learned to love the new pallet. And with my new applique advice from @gaylebrindley I am ready for the next challenge.
