Busy weekend. Today I woke up, refreshed and excited as usual about coffee and meditation. Got straight out of bed, made coffee, came back to bed for my morning mediation and journaling, and realized it was pretty dark for the clear day I'd glimpse outside my living room windows. 6:07a.m. Oh well, I was up.
Later in the morning, my son and I went to the barn to ride. (my daughter's on a road trip with my Mom. Can't remember if I mentioned that.) Mr. Jones was being used in a ground-work lesson that was just finishing up. Score. didn't have to turn him out before riding. I threw a bareback pad and a bridle on him and off we went.
My son handled him beautifully! The Mister isn't the easiest horse in the world to ride. Grown-ups often have trouble with him. But my son is getting more and more confident and they had several good turns around the arena. Then I got on.
It. Was. Fabulous!! I haven't felt that comfortable riding for a long time. I felt like my old self. Where riding bareback feels as comfortable and secure as sitting on my sofa at home. I was totally at ease, balanced, and had great communication with Mr. Jones. He did everything I asked him to willingly (one minor disagreement, soon resolved in my favor). I really think the new thought exercises I've been doing these last few months are helping a lot. Maybe it was because for once I used the bareback pad, instead of just hopping on with nothing. Horeshair is slippery! Something is helping. I was thrilled.
And hot. so we gave both Phoebe and Mr. Jones quick baths, finished our other chores, and headed home to the pool. Thank goodness a few other kids showed up. My son had a ton of fun playing with them. They were all around his age, so it was a level playing field. We spent a couple of hours at the pool hanging out, chatting with neighbors, reading, sunbathing, swimming, etc. Pool stuff.
A friend came over for dinner to help me test out my newly repaired grill. (He'd actually done the repairing.) Hamburgers, grilled corn, and salad. IMO, the ultimate summer dinner.
Today was a pleasure, start to finish. I even got my laundry washed and folded. I'm typing this from freshly washed sheets and bedding. Today was an excellent start to summer. I am content.
