Upsetting news in the Ferguson case. Hard to believe it won't even go to trial. Closer to home, the funeral of the boy killed by a fleeing suspect in the San Leandro police chase is tomorrow morning. I'm close to a woman who's very good friends with the father of the boy. The boy had called his Dad at 5:00 that afternoon to ask if he could take him to buy a bike as promised. His Dad said he'd have to do it the next afternoon, as he was running a bit late. The boy said that was fine. No problem. He'd ride his skateboard home. Around 6:00 the police called the Dad, and told him his son had been in an accident. I keep getting posts about it on FB, as the viewing and rosary were today. It's Mommy/son night tonight. Holding him extra-close while we watch an inappropriately scary new show On Demand. So grateful to have my amazing children. I commented on a post on FB today about over-protective parental behavior. It's a difficult thing; walking that fine line between giving them freedom to gain confidence and learn life skills, and keeping them from harm. You can only see the part of the line that's already behind you.
