How do you politely take your leave of someone you both know you won't be seeing again because they'll be dead? It seemed cowardly not address it at all. Fortunately, my great-uncle is a retired minister. He's pretty comfortable with death, even when it's his own. I'm not close to him at all, but like him a lot. I said, "Good-bye J, I really enjoyed seeing you again and catching up. Good luck with "everything", I hope it's not too painful." He laughed and said, "Oh, it will be, but it will be all right!" I hope I can handle my impending demise with that kind of grace.
