Happy happy, joy joy!
Upgraded myself to the 2000+ sq/ft executive suite.
Here's what happened. The office manager came back today. Naturally, didn't tell anyone she was coming, just showed up. But, we'd been told she may come soon for a couple of days a week, so it wasn't a total shock. Just another example of her odd nature. Actually, I was truly delighted to see her. I've been chomping at the bit to move on to other things. They swear there's plenty to do, so I'm taking them at their word and not worrying about it. Anyway, right now I have a big project for a client due. It's one that requires a lot of focus; and that 300 sq/ft office with five (!) other people wasn't conducive. I've been planning all along to return the office manager's office to her as soon as she returns (exp: hook her computer back up and move mine to the reception area, get her personal items out of storage, etc.). So I caused the switch to be made and went home to get my laptop.
I made an executive decision that I will work in the adjacent vacant retail space that we manage, and are currently negotiating to lease. (Our client is notoriously difficult to deal with so this is taking a ludicrously long time.) My office will be in here anyway at some point, only right now, I don't have to share. My boss uses it when he's here. If he's okay with me being here while he's here, I'd prefer that, as that little office becomes very cramped and loud!
I'll miss my co-peeps, and I know they'll miss me (Except the accountant, who's been stand-offish in some sort of show of solidarity with the office manager. The whole thing is silly and unnecessary.) But I'm anxious to get out from under my administrative duties. And as soon as we get this lease negotiated, they'll be back with me anyway. And my office will get a lot smaller.
