Peaceful few hours with Mr. Jones and Phoebe yesterday. Turned out in different places. Phoebe in the indoor arena where she feels safe, Mr. Jones out in the grassy turn-out where he can graze. Since he's been stuck in a stall these past few months (Through every fault of his own, mister, "No fence can contain me."), when he gets out to graze, he eats like he's in an epic Whack-a-Mole contest. Frantically grabbing grass until the time expires. He did this for three hours yesterday, with hardly any break. It's exhausting watching him, so I focus on other things. There was a pair of ravens circling around me quite a bit. They followed me around the property. Since ravens seem to be taking an interest in me these days (not just at the barn) I read up on them. Really amazing animals. Among other things, they're very clever and intelligent, about the level of dolphins and chimpanzees, they use gestures to communicate, can imitate sounds better than parrots (they use this skill in the wild to imitate wolves and such, which scares off predators), and "train" other animals to do things for them. It was so quiet I could hear the wind in their wings as they flew around me. And I could hear them talking to other ravens at least a quarter mile away. I love the barn. Never boring.
