Peaceful early afternoon by the bay. Very few people around.
I watched a large pelican hunt for a while. I love watching them dive down, twisting at just the right moment to nab their prey upon splashdown. What a way to go for the fish though. The pelican would surface with the fish wriggling in its beak, then swallow it live in a couple of gulps. Would not want to be that fish.
I also watched a particularly territorial gull chase every other gull off of its chosen turf. Like a dog, it would run at the other gull with its head down, "barking" until the interloper left. It even shouted at gulls randomly flying overhead. That gull really cares.
Then, I watched a pair of cormorants hunting from the surface. They'd duck under water every few feet, surface to snap down their catches (avoiding the gulls waiting for them up top to steal their snack) and dive again.
Most of them are gone now. Lunch is over, I guess.
Time for me to head inland for the "turf" part of my day. Horses await.
