Let this tale bring you joy (and gratitude that I do these things so you don't have to.)
I spent lunch at the beach this afternoon, watching the EBRPD Fire Department who happened to be there practicing their water rescues.
I'd placed my beach chair on a small berm between the grass and the sand. I got up from my chair for something, and when I sat back down, I knew immediately something had gone horribly awry. As I sat, teetering on the back legs of the chair, watching my feet wave in the air above my head, (a novel sight these days) I thought, "This is it, this is really going to happen, I'm going over backwards and I'm helpless to stop it." And then I went all the way over and ended up resting comfortably in the sand, still "seated".
I couldn't get up right away because I was laughing so hard. Naturally, it's a beautiful day, so the beach was crowded. I wonder if anyone saw? Yeah, they did, definitely.
Fortunately, none of the Fire Department people did, as there was a large clump of pampas grass between us. I'm sure they heard my hysterical laughter. So glad none of the EMTs rushed over to check on the crazy lady. My dog was pretty puzzled by the whole thing.
Honestly, if anyone were fated to pioneer the sport of extreme beach chair sitting, it would be me. That's my way. I suppose I'll have to start wearing a helmet to the beach now. Safety first!
