On practice /
A note to those exploring meditation with me.
If you were to do one thing, it would be to remember that practice is not for a goal. That is why it’s called practice. It is simply practice. And with practice, the thing that we practice becomes natural, spontaneous, arising without thought.
When we practice meditation, whether sitting, standing or moving, we form and develop new habits. These habits will over write our less helpful habits. These habits will carry us through life. These habits reform us. We are reborn in every moment. No past, no future, not even a present. Only what is.
To be with what is, in the present moment, is why we practice. Training our attention, instead of allowing our attention to train us.
Whatever you do today, do it with Zen mind. Attention resting solely on activity when there is activity, and resting solely at it’s own source, when there is not.
This is the best practice, and will form the best habits.
