Good things take time, this is especially true when it comes to beer. Westbound & Down Brewing Company pride themselves in challenging their club members with complex brews that stimulate the palette. They engage design as a natural extension of that conversation.
The brewery wanted to introduce an ever-changing collection of beers in a way that excited their club members. We created an easily navigated dynamic visual system. Using a rigid label grid for all the mandatory label information - we overlaid a playful, yet bold bespoke typographic numbering approach, each as unique as the beer itself.
The tactile single 3/4 hand-applied label wraps around the base of the bottle which helps ease the burdens of production and feels good in the hand. The single wrap also allowed us to distance the tasting notes from the front label area, giving it a minimal look & feel.
These beers are brewed in small batches with varying quantities. Using a HP 6600 to print the labels ensured we could keep the low-volume run costs low, and produce a high-quality tactile label. Considering the unit cost of the beers - conventional printing wouldn’t of been an option.
The collection kicked off in early 2018 and is currently up to number 5.
