The Mach 1 guarantees the best dealing with this facet of the GT500 thanks to its wealth of repurposed GT350 suspension parts. It also gets the GT350’s distinctive 6-speed manual, although the 10-speed automated is obtainable as nicely. With 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque from 2.3 liters, this engine is nothing to sneeze at; these figures would have been a match for a V-8 Mustang of 15 years ago. The flat torque curve delivers all that torque before 2,000 rpm; although it lacks the theater of the V-8, the joys of energy remains to be there, just in a more muted fashion.
