What do you get when you mix an old-school life connoisseur - one who created a inspirational limited edition, collectable publication and a hot young Italian fashion photographer - one who brings an enviable head of hair and large Instagram following?
Meet BACCALÀ - the genre defying amazing new print magazine from Scott A. Sant’Angelo and Alessandro Casagrande.
BACCALÀ bills itself as “a large format bi-annual fashion, art, & photography magazine with fresh eyes, honest design, youthful perspectives and the occasional recipe,” but it’s so much more.
The premier issue is a 112-pages of WOW! Not because of tired celebrity du jour bullshit, objectifying spreads or shit ass advice, but because Sant’Angelo, long-time publisher of Arkitip, lives and curates what’s happening now - the ideas, images, tastes, music and moves that tomorrow’s basic population wish they knew about today.
From Danny Sangra’s insightful and whimsical scratchings on torn out magazines to Andrew Durham’s on-the-set coverage of Sofia Coppola, you understand that there’s something more going on here, something deeper and more personal. Not so ironically, Cassagrande’s work is called: It’s Something Personal.
And to understand BACCALÀ is to get a peek into a life well-lived - something Scott A. Sant’Angelo knows and embodies. Scott has always understood that what makes life special is a diverse dash of subcultures mixed up in wonderful ways. Those who know Scott can imagine the light bulb in his head illuminated.
I met this kid Alessandro Cassagrande - amazing photographer. Gets it, gets me, has a solid work ethic and the immediate Italian heritage bond. Let’s do something different. Try something different and meld what we both have a passion for and put that in print.
And the real difference are the deeply personal sections: Scott’s Polaroids, Stuff in Storage with longtime Arkitip collaborator Tony Arcabascio, Damon Way’s artist portraits, the music tips from Eugene Whang and the recipe - yes, a real recipe from not just any chef, one from multiple Michelin starred Italian chef Massimo Bottura. Oh yeah, some fashion that is shown in an interesting way that does not seem pretentious.
There’s so much more. Pick up a copy and treat yourself.
