Why do people suffer in corporations and why can they (the people and the systems) so easily become corrupt, especially over time?
Maybe the problems stem from a glut of unskilled, unchosen and disrespected leaders. Leaders should be chosen by their followers and should not be considered infallible. They should be chosen based on ability to manage and not be given any more benefits than those they manage merely based on position. People now strive for management positions in order to get safety for their families in their older ages, regardless of whether they have any ability for it. Weak managers become tyrants, narcissistic managers become tyrants, repressed managers become tyrants. But all must seek to become managers in order to reap from the top what they have given when they were on the bottom. There is often no incentive to follow your own skill.
If we had from each according to their ability, we wouldn't need to each according to their needs. We would have an abundance.
Democracy is difficult on large scales, but in most workplaces, we know each other. The majority know who should lead and who is good at what. Most companies are of tribal sizes and well within our mental capacity to judge. We already have the equipment in our minds to judge what is good for the group but the systems in place run contrary. And those in power know this. And those who want the power and rewards but know they don't have the capacity defend their systems tooth and nail. They know in an open field they can not stand against the competition.
We have innate understanding of who deserves respect in our circles. There are circles that become corrupt which may require rebellion and even revolution. But should we decide to operate the norm as if it were the exception? Do you drive a long haul truck as if it were a pick up just because you saw a rusted out pick up get in a wreck?
Those undeserving of their position will shout at you with bullhorns, they will rally their armies against you, they will bring their full weight to bear - notice they have weight but not strength - they owe their power to inertia. They will attack your character and past but ignore your ideas; they know they can't win there. They will talk about your flaws in spelling and grammar and ignore how they are losing the argument. Facts are their enemy. They will overload good information with bad and tell you there is no difference between the two - until it is their time to speak. Then they wield a flaming sword of truth that knows no mercy.
It has nothing to do with right or left. The illness is chronic. And perhaps inevitable as we figure out how to be as groups larger than our imaginations. Maybe it is just growing pains.
Maybe different than other animals, we have choice in how we grow; we are agents in our evolution. Maybe we should start acting like it.
