The house was commissioned by Margarethe 1891–1978 (née Blitz) & Julius Beer 1884-1941. Julius and Margarethe Beer escaped the nazi Germany to New York 1940.
The architects and designers Josef Frank & Oskar Wlach founded the company Haus und garten OHG (house and garden) 1925 with Walter Sobotka (1888–1972), Sobotka withdrew the partnership 1926.
Josef Frank escaped the nazi Germany to Sweden 1933. Oskar Wlach runned the Haus und garten untill it was taken over by aryanization 1938. Oskar Wlach escaped the nazi Germany to New York 1940.
Julius Theodor Kalmar 1888-1968 ran the company Haus und garten from 1938. Anna Lülja-Praun (née Simidoff) 1908-2004 was arrested in the German annexation 1938 but released after having her apartment searched and she came to design for Haus und garten 1953. She was the artistic leader 1954-1959. Haus und garten was sold 1958 to Payer decor.
