My talented flatmate, fellow photographer Brenton Parry photographed one of my favourite people (and a #PersonalHero of mine) - Ji Wallace - for the Australian Gay & Lesbian Archives #agla this morning. Ji is an Australian gold medal Olympian, World Champion trampolinist, and former Cirque Du Soleil performer... and that's just for starters. This mega spunk was one of Australia's first Olympic level athletes to come out publicly as a gay man. A few years ago, Wallace came out as HIV positive too and has worked tirelessly to reduce the stigma surrounding HIV. He isn't just a LGBTI hero though, for this generous guy is always doing incredible work in the community, from sports activities with disadvantaged kids, to mentoring athletes, participating in awareness raising events around the world and speaking out on important community issues. And for him, it's as natural as breathing. I love people like Ji, because they are always making the most of their lives and taking every opportunity to help make the world a better place. It's never about publicity. It's never about money. And he is always so lovely to everyone he meets. It's just what he does, and that's just so fucking inspiring to me.
So good to see you today Ji! Please thank your lovely mum for her gardening tips, and give my love to your sweet hubby.
