Imaginary or Infrequently Asked Questions (IOIAQs)
1. What is this "undersaturated" community, anyway?
It's a featured Ello Community under the dubious curation of @billbanning who uses his self-appointed authority to define photography worth looking at.
2. Undersaturated? What's up with the name?
It feels right for a few reasons. The most obvious of which refers to color saturation. I really appreciate good black-and-white, monochrome, or duo-tone images... and processing that includes restrained, not in-your-face, or over-the-top almost-radioactive color saturation.
I'm also intrigued by the idea of sharing work that may not be getting lots of views here – call it eyeball saturation. That's another kind of undersaturation I'm looking for.
3. Just what DO you think is worth sharing?
That's still evolving, and will likely never be stable or consistent.
For now, it's about what resonates at any given moment. Part of my reason for participating on Ello is a desire to better define a personal photographic style. By looking at, and reacting to, the work of other photographers and sharing what resonates, I hope to solidify my own aesthetic.
Recently, I've been paying attention to street photography and other images with strong documentary context. I'm also a sucker for abstracts, minimalism, or other work that evokes strong emotion or mood.
4. Why should I care what you think is worth sharing?
Clearly, you shouldn't. But, I know what I like at any given instant and it might be fun to watch. Not unlike a train wreck.
5. How do you pick photographs to repost and share?
I choose to follow fellow ello'ers when I see something I like. I tend to follow links from commenters and other users and communities who regularly repost.
If you think you've got stuff that would fit my dubious tastes, tag @undersaturated in your posts. I'll take a look and bestow appropriate reposts, loves, and/or comments.
