Singapore is well-known for its chewing gum ban. It remains one of the best-known aspects of life in Singapore, along with the country’s laws and fines for littering, drugs, graffiti, jaywalking, trespassing into private proper- ty, spitting, food and drinks on public transport and urinating in lifts. Such measures had even seen Michael P. Fay, an American teenager sentenced to caning for vandalism in 1994. With the strict laws taken in place, these were to ensure Singapore is safe and orderly to live in.
