Bourbon and Linoleum
A stolen glance, a lover's dance,
Happened when chance mixed with romance,
Time flew by fast and each was unmasked,
Shared tribulations from their different pasts,
Doing their best to make the good times last,
Feelings of joy unable to surpass,
But seasons change and so do I,
Sometimes I still ask myself why,
And though I need not wonder,
I'll never forget that summer,
The world was an oyster for two young lovers,
Before the scars were uncovered,
When there will still things in one another to discover,
When we still cared for each other,
I should have known when you didn't call,
Didn't need to tell me I didn't cross your mind at all,
You sure know how to make a big man feel small,
My foolish pride came before my fall,
An engine running that suddenly stalled,
I thought that we were playing for keeps,
But you kept your heart just beyond my reach,
What a fucked up lesson for someone to teach,
Just catch and release while I'm grinding my teeth,
I suppose I can find some relief,
True colors were shone before we had a home,
And decided to go all in and swap some chromosomes,
Better to happen now than a few years later,
When investments are greater,
Shit you don't even look good on paper,
Have I become such a hater?
You deserve more respect,
But something broke inside me the day that you left,
Or is this the way that I was before?
Did the best part of me leave when you shut the door?
The apple of my eye, the girl I adored,
The one that has me drinking alone on my kitchen floor
