This piece is an optimistic look at the moment in which a varied spectrum of women come together in a demonstration of solidarity and empowerment. Historically, Women have endured the currents of oppression, hence, the female figures treading through a platform of water., marching against its current. As a woman, I can personally speak to being overlooked in favor of preconceived ideas that I am lesser, rather than a human being with a conciousness that can elect significant change to the world around me. We were conditioned to feel inferior. This is represented by the bags over the figures’ heads that read’s “Out Of Order”, which strips the women away of their identity. The term “Out Of Order” will automatically read as something that isn’t working properly. But in this case, I’m using the term to elude to the idea that we are out of the order of oppression. Much like the subjects of my piece, Women are no longer accepting the obsolete idea that because of their gender, they are less entitled to justice, respect, and ultimate equality within all areas in our society.
