::What we were not taught, we must seek. Where do you carry ancestral memory? The holes of his-story are maddening, but finding the links and intersections helps uncover a pattern. To know our liberation is bound together is to know our stories--especially those hidden, minimized or refused. From Silvia Federici's book Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation:
ᚼᚼ: "The witch hunt (in Europe)...to this day remains one of the most understudied phenomena in European history. That the victims were mostly peasant women may account for historians' past indifference towards this genocide, an indifference that has bordered on complicity..." .
ᚼᚼ:"it should have seemed significant that the witch hunt occurred simultaneously with the colonization and extermination of the populations of the new world, the English enclosures, the beginning of the slave trade..."
ᚼᚼ: "if we consider the historical context in which the witch hunt occurred, the gender and class of the accused, and the effects of the persecution, then we must conclude that witch hunting in Europe was an attack on women's resistance to the spread of capitalist relations and the power that women had gained by virtue of their sexuality, their control over reproduction, and their ability to heal."
More and more I realize how little I know. More and more diving, through more and more dusk to the throb of power there. What we carry in our bones was done for generations. It is time to unknot the line. Look to the divisions to see what unifies.
