Up early again, before 6. Left before 7 (before Bree stirred); Communitea, closed, so I got a coffee at Sweetleaf, wrote HEAD ONE, read a few pages each of Just Sitting and The Up and Up. Wrote 1300 words on early '60s JB at Oracle, about 10:30-4 before burning out. Sandwich, nap in a chair, dharma talk on anatta, coffee (talked to the guy in the Veldt, who's from Raleigh, about going to NC to record in Nov.), a little email. Walked over to LIC Bar (because I mistakenly though there was a reading), heard an unknown band in the back garden (singer w/ uke, trombone, vibes, bass, drums) play of "Amapola" and an unfamiliar standardish tune, possibly titled "Do With It as You Please" (though Google reveals nothing...) Quite nice - the singer wasn't overdoing it, and both soloists were solid. Then figured out that the place I'd meant to go, the weirdly named The Beast Next Door, was about a 10 min. walk away. "Noir at the Bar" crime fiction reading - went because a slight internet acquaintance, Sarah Weinman, had invited me. Heard her and two others read short stories, chatted for a bit at a break, left before the rest. Back to Oracle, second with on "I Got Money." Generated upwards of 2K words today, but it's all pretty rough and needs cutting and reorg. Left about 10:30. Read quota of JB bio (unfortunately, there's a new one I should look at) on train and at home. Bed after midnight.
