// THE BIG SHOW //
A project inspired by the DADA Movement, tackling the concept of modern day relationships and the threats which they face, such as social media, commitment issues, unfaithfulness, comparison etc, through the medium of collage. The main focus was put on the concept of 'commitment' (or lack thereof), for the final piece, and imagery related to the circus was used to bring these ideas forward. Trapeze artists rely on trust and balance for an act to work. In this collage all three girls need to trust that the boy will catch them, but he can only catch one. Which one will he catch? And which ones will go crashing down? The same way that 2 of these 3 girls will get physically hurt depending on which one of them the boy ends up catching, mimics the way that people get emotionally hurt when trust is broken in a relationship setting.
- TRAPEZE ACT
Trapeze artists rely on trust and balance for an act to work. In this collage all three girls need to trust that the boy will catch them. All three girls put their trust in the boy to catch them, but he can only catch one. Which one will he catch? And which ones will go crashing down?
- FOOL AROUND
A clown is someone who is meant to make you laugh, someone who is a form of entertainment. This collage focuses on the difference between love and "having fun". the multiple unopened condoms on the right, censor the clowns face, suggesting anonymity and a sense of artificiality. it is an impersonal composition, no identity, insinutating that he is not important or that those who he is engaging with aren't important.
In the left image, the clown's real face is showing. His hair and nose are made up of used/open condoms. A clown can also be seen as a person who ridicules himself as well as others. In the right image, he is ridiculing others ie. every partner who thinks that they are 'the only one' and on the left, he is being ridiculed for not knowing he wasn't the only one. Two sides of the story.
- THE JUGGLER
A juggler is meant to juggle clubs or balls. In this case, he is juggling the hearts belonging to different women. He is switching them around in his hands, giving each of them a taste of what could be. Going round in circles, and eventually coming to a halt. The juggler risks dropping all the balls/hearts. The more balls/hearts he adds to the mix, the bigger the risk of things falling apart becomes.
- HELIUM HEART
A harmless clown usually gives out balloons to children at carnivals or circuses. This time, instead of giving out balloons, he is holding inflated hearts in his hand where the balloons should be. These hearts could either represent the hearts of those who he is two-timing (different partners who he cannot commit to) or a representation of his own heart as different versions of itself. with every person who asks for a balloon/heart, he gives them a piece of it, also unable to commit to just one.
