Missing – 2016
Ink and acrylic on canvas board (sold)
Hardly a week goes by that I don’t deeply appreciate my life of ease and modernity here in Canada. But also, hardly a week goes by that I am not reminded that even here, in possibly the best country on earth, there are countless atrocities that have been committed against the marginalized and maligned. We have a dirty past when it comes to how the colonizing guests have neglected to share the land with the host nations. But beyond being bad neighbours, xenophobia, racism and greed has led to continually perpetuated injustice.
This piece is a memorial to the thousands of missing and murdered indigenous women, and a dream that eventually we will repay the past and learn to live in a more beautiful way.
