Laughter rained from her gray eyes,
Flooding her cheeks and my soul.
She soaked into my barren heart,
Like cracked soil in summer heat.
My heart’s desperate thirst pleading: more.
Its brittle dust becoming fertile again
The wind shifted, carrying her away.
A passing storm nurturing summer wildflowers.
Their roots clinging to forgotten promises,
Of a storm never coming back.
