The design for the sculpture came to me late in the middle of the night while I was alone sanding the bottom of my father's boat. A voice in the hum of the orbital sander I was using asked me "Who do you miss most?" I stopped and walked around the dimly lit shop and thought about what I was doing awake at this hour, sanding the bottom of a boat at 2 am. I came across a large crate filled with junk; air hoses, broken tools, things like that. I pulled out three air hose hooks that had yet to be mounted as we had just moved into the shop. I began playing with them on the large table in the center of the shop. I went back to the box and rummaged around some more. I pulled out a piece of a broken tool and added it to the hose hooks on the table. With its addition the pieces of metal gained new life and my answer to the voice was there. "Windy, my dog, sleeping back home while I worked, was who I missed most."
Inspired by these found objects I created the first maquette of WIndy and later a scale 12 prototype hastily built and meant for sculpture graffiti but was destroyed before being seen by the public eye after being stored for a year.
But now you can help me build a permanent yet mobile, large scale version of this design that once built can be easily transported and installed anywhere with as little as a team of four people.
