This sculptural design is entitled Windy. I am currently in the midst of a kickstarter campaign trying to raise funding to build this design 11’ tall, 12’ wide and 17’ long
Built to this large scale of 12 based on the original maquette, the finished sculpture will be built out of fiberglass composites as well as be modular and mount to a minimal steel frame. This will be done so that it will be easy to transport and install with minimal impact to the installation area thanks to its lightweight and ability to be dismantled into four manageable components
Thanks to the sculptures steel pin system and mounting frame that connects the four composite components together; the scale 12 sculpture will be able to move, just like the original maquette. This means the legs can pivot on the mounting pins that will slide up the more vertical ends of each leg A frame beam. The tail, connected to the rear leg A frame by way of a steel pin that is adhered to the rear leg with methacrylate adhesive and run through a bearing tube that will be embedded in the tail’s connecting end. This will leave the tail free to be wagged back and forth on this pivot point. The leg beams will be of boxed construction to keep them light weight over all, however the ends of the legs will be partially filled with concrete. This will be done to prevent the sculpture from moving in a hazardous manner due to strong winds, and additionally deter excessive horse play and attempts to pick up the sculpture by the public.
The sculpture, once constructed, will provide an impressively large volume occupying presence. It will be able to do this while still being suitable as a mobile piece of public art; easy to transport and install with minimal impact and without the aid of heavy machinery by a team of four people. Regardless of its mobility, the sculpture will still be constructed sturdily enough to meet the requirements called upon by a long term outdoor installation in the public domain, combating weather and traffic. While capable of long term exhibition, the plan is for the sculpture to be temporarily installed in many locations and cities, both indoors and out.
